The organisation's clients, were beginning to recognise that safety risk was a key indicator of hidden future costs. |
Engineering - Using Safety Leadership to Elevate Organisation CompetenceThe Client IssueThis organisation provides a complete project development service for leading international clients in the oil & gas, minerals, infrastructure and property industries. The Group's turnkey services range from complex front-end engineering design and construction to long-term operations and maintenance. The organisation's clients were beginning to recognise that safety risk was a key indicator of hidden future costs. As a result they required an audit of the safety risks for each process in the services their suppliers were delivering. The leadership team decided to exceed these requirements by positioning safety as a competitive advantage. Their goal was to attain an LTIFR and permanent damage rate among the lowest in industry. Our Approach Outcome In order to achieve this goal, ZEAL developed and delivered a Safety Leadership Program that also leveraged safety success into other organisational areas. The organisation benefited directly from the cost reductions associated with an injury free, low-absentee, low turnover workforce. The Safety Leadership program also ensured that management understood the human factors affecting accountability and rapid organisational change. There was a clear and direct message in the organisation that safety
determines their ongoing success. The key principles for the organization
now include personal responsibility, accountability, risk management, a
learning culture and consistency in approach. | |
