The Value Proposition. Most organisations today have invested considerable time and effort in establishing their safety and risk management systems and structures. Many have sought to have their systems certified to international standards. Yet many recognise that, despite all that has been done, more is needed in order to increase organisational resilience to risks. Also, they recognise that their efforts in reacting to low consequence, but high probability, incidents diverts management away from a focus on ensuring the things 'that can put us out of business' are identified and tightly controlled. Organisations also recognise that the way they do business, largely, dictates whether or not they will achieve high efficiencies, better quality and improved safety & health outcomes for their business. Safety is an outcome of the way we do business and, as a topic, has the ability to engage debate at all levels in an organisation. ZEAL uses cultural transformation through using safety as the lever to achieve organisational excellence. The culture of an organisation is a function of both its management systems and the underlying climate, or the receptiveness of the organisation to those systems. The more credible the management systems are to the people working in the organisation, the greater their level of adoption, the better the climate and ultimately the better the culture. In order for management systems to be credible and effective there has to be a strong congruence between leadership, in agreeing what needs to be managed, and the systems used to manage. Through culture transformation, using safety as the lever, ZEAL believes that organisations can leverage their existing investment in systems and structures and unleash the power of focused leadership and engaged employees. |
